Migrane Headache
Migraine is the most common cause of vascular headache. It affects approximately 15% of women and 6% of men. Migraine is
defined as a benign and recurring syndrome of headache often throbbing and frequently with associated symptoms of nausea
and/or vomiting, sensitivity to light and sounds and can be associated with aura. Migraine headaches are a major source of
disability and time out of work for many patients. Recent research supports that chronic use of certain prescription and
over the medications such as Tylenol or any of the non steroidal anti inflammatory medications can promote rebound headaches.
Individuals who routinely take these medications at least 2 or 3 times a week for headaches are most at risk for developing
this viscious cycle. The evaluation and treatment of a patient who suffers from chronic headaches must be individualized.
At Healing Choices, we incorporate a more holistic non drug oriented approach for those individuals who have already been
evaluated and diagnosed with this disorder. We help break the cycle of our motivated patients who are willing to make some
of the needed lifestyle changes along with nutritional counseling, select supplements, herbal, and homeopathic options.
Acupuncture is a particularily effective treatment for this condition and well integrated into our total approach.
Acupuncture can be effective both in the prevention and treatment of a migraine in progress. We also incorporate the critical
strategies of physical therapy/exercise and mind body approaches that can further assist with an individuals healing.
